Tom began the season well, starting all three of United’s opening fixtures alongside Michael Carrick. The Basingstoke-born midfielder asserted himself well in the two wins and a draw that United notched during the first month of the campaign. During August, Cleverley also earned his 10th international cap in England’s 3-2 victory the Scotland.
After a fine start to the campaign, Cleverley endured an inconsistent couple of months. He struggled with a succession of small injury problems and, as a result, was limited to only seven appearances in September and October, starting in five of those. At the end of October, Tom expressed his hope that, with his injury problems behind him, he would be able to push on in November. "I’ve made 10 appearances now, so it appears to have finally kick-started and hopefully I can kick on and the team can go on a winning run," the midfielder told MUTV.
